21 Hour Working Week a New Trend
Submitted by pf-admin on Tue, 02/16/2010 - 09:42I was reading that the New Economics Foundation (NEF) have recommonded a 21 hour working week. According to their studies this would boost the economy, employees productivity, reduce the unemployment rate and certainly put a smile on my face. but could this really work in todays current workaholic environment? In my opinion I beleive it could. Take a side the problems of more expense to employers, people taking on more than one job to use up their spare time and the fact it would probably never happen.
This got me thinking! Why should I wait for a government legislation to change before I reduce my hours? I could start from today. I am sure if I put my mind to it I could be more efficicent and cut all the wasted time out of my working week and condense this in to 21 hours and still come out with the same result at the end. Perhaps the result wouldn't be the same, perhaps it would be better. I would be more motivated to get the job done, allowing me to spend more time with the family and having fun.
I am positive that many people out there would say that they could never reduce their hours and infact wouldn't be reducing their hours from 39 but from 60+. But why do we work 39+ hours? I don't really know. I only work these hours because this is what I was told when I first got a job, because I signed a contract with an employer who thought that this was the trend. Who says this is the trend?
I read a good book lately that said if it was a matter of life or death you would be able to reduce your working weekly hours. So perhaps we just fill our 39+ hours with task to complete, when we should be breaking a trend that nobody knows who set it.

Enjoy Being A Scapegoat? Become A Project Manager!

One of the things that makes me chuckle is when people introduce themselves as a project manager and you start talking to them about project management and then you realise they are not a real project manager.
Treat project managers like salesperson…. no not like that!
Submitted by pf-admin on Mon, 01/18/2010 - 16:45As a project draws to a close the project manager’s mind often wonders off to the next project when closing the first project is critical to ensure the organisation can start to reap some of the benefits that the project has delivered.
New Year New Projects (and those that have overrun from last year)
Submitted by pf-admin on Mon, 01/18/2010 - 16:41So this is it new year and more projects I wish I could say it was back with a bang more like a whimper. Only have one salesman phone me first thing (he must be keen.... or under pressure). Still he was pleased when I told him the project is scheduled to start this week and end in April. If only he was a project manager he would have interpreted it as the project is due to complete in March and April has been added on as slack.
